At The Dental Wellness Centre we are committed to using the most modern and advanced technology, to enhance patient experience and to make us the 'practitioners of choice' for orthodontic care ensuring that every patient achieves a healthy and beautiful smile.
For most people, a spectacular smile is the most obvious benefit of orthodontics. A beautiful smile leads to enhanced self-esteem, and is universally accepted sign of health and beauty. After your orthodontic treatment is complete, you will feel more self-confident.
Our teeth serve many functions. Straight teeth are easy to keep clean, free of harmful plaque that causes decay and gum disease. Well aligned teeth and jaws provide optimal function. Tooth wear is greatly reduced, and the jaw joints are allowed to function with less stress and greater comfort.
Crowns or Veneers Vs Braces
Crowns & Veneers are a cosmetic solution to problems with the appearance of your teeth. They do not cure problems caused by the underlying structure of your jaw or the position of your teeth. By following proper orthodontic procedures, many cosmetic and health problems involving the teeth, gums and jaws can be solved permanently.
While crowns & veneers are long lasting, they do need to be replaced every so often. The teeth need to be permanently reshaped. While the teeth look "perfect," the patient is relying on dental appliances that require changes in eating and drinking habits to maintain their beauty.
Orthodontic procedures solve both cosmetic and health problems of the teeth. Orthodontics require more time to work, but the solution they provide is permanent. With orthodontics, you are left with your own teeth, but with your health and appearance improve.
Types of braces
Traditional metal braces
Traditional metal braces are the most common type of braces and are more comfortable today than ever before. Made of high-grade stainless steel, metal braces straighten your teeth using metal brackets and archwires. With metal braces, you have the option of adding colored elastics for a more unique and colorful smile. These colors can be changed at each adjustment appointment.
When you have decided to go for braces treatment, then there is the option of going for color bands. These are commonly called as color braces. These come in many colors and you can choose the color of your choice for the braces to suit your face.
Tooth colored braces
Tooth colored braces are made of clear materials and are therefore less visible on your teeth than metal braces. While they are visually less prominent, they do require more attention to oral hygiene as ceramic braces are more brittle than their metal counterparts. If you want straight teeth, but are concerned about how you will look with braces, consider this option.
Lingual braces are different to other braces as they are fitted on the back of the tooth surfaces (on the tongue side) and are therefore "invisible" when you smile. An invisibrace such as this is ideal for those who require orthodontic treatment but do not wish to compromise their appearance.
Lingual Orthodontic Braces are placed behind your teeth, so no one will even know you are wearing braces – unless you want them to! There is particular demand from people who do a lot of public speaking in their role, actors and actresses ,athletes, models, actors, musicians who play wind instruments, and adult professionals and anyone who does not want people to notice their orthodontic treatment. Lingual Braces give you a beautiful smile, even while you're wearing them.
Additional specialist training is required for orthodontists to be able to work with lingual braces. Not every orthodontist provides this completely invisible option.
Self Ligating Braces
Self Ligating Braces eliminate the need for rubber bands. Instead they have a "trap door" that holds the wires into the brackets. The advantage is fewer overall visits and quicker treatment times. In addition, teeth don't get as sore and the gums remain healthier during treatment, as there are no elastic rings to hold plaque and bacteria against the teeth.
Clear aligners (such as Invisalign ®)
Clear aligner treatment moves your teeth using a series of custom- fit, removable mouth trays, or aligners, that apply a controlled amount of force to your teeth The process begins with a computer-generated image of what your teeth will look like at each stage of treatment, and successive aligners are made accordingly.
No one can tell you are wearing those aligners because they are invisible! Several sets of specially moulded, slightly different aligners are made for each patient. Each set is worn for two weeks before being replaced with the next one. These clear braces move your teeth, week by week, millimetre by millimetre, to the desired position.
They are also removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment, plus brushing and flossing are less of a hassle. The aligners are comfortable and have no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment.
